This tweet was an eye-opener. Russell Brand, the story goes, commented something about the big culture war distraction game, wherein the real players tighten their grip behind the scenes. Basically, he laid it down that the culture war is a distraction from the real political game at hand: “They want you fighting culture wars on a battlefield they already own. While we argue over symbols, real power tightens its grip.” Very Brand-y. But that much is predictable: the replies were something completely different.

There were a few to get the depth he was trying to convey: Agent 47 would say: “Manipulation of focus on cultural symbols distracts from the systemic issues at play.” Quite brilliant, if the author took time to brew tea and sip while typing. Zealot: “Exactly, they own the battleground. Time to change the game.” Straight to the point, table-flipping prone.
Not everyone figured their angle. The poor Nickyutd7 was quick to mention: “When you making the front pages in the UK again russ .it’s been a few weeks now . I wouldn’t be surprised is the FBI come knocking soon.” That is an escalation. Then Reptile Hybrid bucked out, perhaps going gaga in extreme labeling of Illuminati puppets, dredging up aged music videos, and on-and-off smearing him in her words as “filthy Russell Brand.” The vibes were… heavy.
Some comments were personal. Susan Hayward replied: “I’ve found the whole ‘debate’ very disturbing, a challenge to me being a woman, an attack on my identity.” Meanwhile, Dominic Santacruce evoked the religious “Honor thy course of the Bible as the truth. Government lies, manipulates, and steals.” And then Armando Disraeli went calling: “They = Jews + Palantinates.” Holy mackerel.
And then, just weird-somehow the combination of support and turmoil. Old Gringa liked it about his fake versus real treatment, whereas others declared it just plain AWFUL in capital letters via JameaDavidX. Somehow the fashion aspect came up via Fairy Podcaster: “That is such a dangerous green to wear on camera.” Excuse me, what?
By their nature, tweets got people hot and bothered, thinking, and arguing. In either case, whether you sympathize with him or think he’s totally off his nuts, he is one to stir a reaction! In an economy of attention, that’s pretty much the game isn’t it?

So, yes, that’s another day; another Russell Brand-related tweet that sets everybody at each other’s throats in the comments. Some are for him, others against him; and then there are those just curious about the story behind the T-shirt he’s wearing. Somebody hold the internet!
