The upcoming biopic of Michael Jackson won’t release in 2025, according to several sources.
Michael, directed by Antoine Fuqua, was originally meant to premier in cinemas this year. However, Lionsgate is rumored to be revising its release plan by splitting the film into two separate movies and delaying them to 2026.

When Does the Michael Jackson Film Release?
Michael was slated to release October 3, 2026. That now looks unlikely. While there’s been no official confirmation of any delay, insider sources are saying the film is moving to an unspecified date sometime in 2026.
In addition, Lionsgate didn’t show footage for Michael at CinemaCon, suggesting it’s not quite ready to start up the promotional machine. That said, there is still a small chance Michael could meet its release date this year.
Why is the Michael Jackson Film Delayed?
Michael hasn’t 100% been delayed, but if it is, there are several potential reasons. Firstly, the current cut of the film is said to be clocking in at roughly four hours long. This is too long for cinema-goers, so it’s apparently going to be split into two and released in the same calendar year.
The Jackson Estate has also reportedly voiced concerns with the story, which includes the molestation accusations leveled against Jackson in the early 1990s. This has resulted in “extensive reshoots,” as confirmed by Deadline. Jackson was acquitted of all charges after standing trial in 2005.
