I read somewhere the other day that gardeners are divided into two factions: planting for fall, or putting the garden away. Here in SoCal, we’re not planting yet. Another month to go before then, but here’s some inspiration to get you through this transition to fall.
Our pomegranates are nearly ripeness and size. Excited to sprinkle these on winter squashes when the time comes. Watermelons setting fruit for a fall harvest down the line.This Thousand Head Kale produced all summer, with hardly any aphids. It’s a great perennial kale option for hot, dry locations. After pruning away the lanky summer growth, our tomato plants are revitalized and producing again. Well, it’s time to cover the apple tree with netting. And set traps. We’re testing out this new downy mildew resistant purple basil variety called Prospera DMRLima beans just keep producing, after harvesting the flowers come back for more. Our Meyer lemon is full of fruit, but they won’t be ready until December. We won this Carpet Peach rose a while ago and it’s doing well. It is a low-growing ground cover variety with peachy blossoms. Can’t wait to see if in flower.
