Most approaches to teaching movement are “corrective” in nature – the client is told they’re moving the “wrong” way, shown the “right” way, and asked to repeat what they’re shown. This strategy has at least two weaknesses. First, there’s rarely just one correct way to move, and therefore what works for one person might not work for someone else. Second, people learn to move best through trial and error, not being told what to do. The Feldenkrais Method® has concepts and practices that can help avoid both problems, and make motor learning more exploratory and individualized.

In this webinar I will talk about some key principles from Feldenkrais, and do some short movement explorations based on Feldenkrais lessons. We’ll take familiar exercises like cat-cows, bird dogs, squats, or bridges, and demonstrate how incorporating Feldenkrais-style strategies can make them more exploratory, individualized, variable, and effective.
