Yet another milestone worthy of adding to the Usher Raymond IV brand was an honorary doctorate at Emory University. The great R&B patriarch was in full force, having already received his doctorate and then being asked to deliver the commencement address to the class of 2025 with some serious life lessons.

In a mildly emotional post, Usher recounted, knowing this moment would forever be carved in his mind, how this moment reminded him that growth never stops. “Before I could sing, before I could dance and before I was a doctor, I had passion,” he wrote. That, in his own words, is exactly what anyone holds on to on a path to success, whichever path that may be. The multifaceted entertainer also shared about a multi-year relationship with Emory, supposedly going back some fifteen years and counting, through his New Look Charity. His current mission is to provide opportunities for students much like himself-who is to say, those who somehow might be on the social margin but are ready to put forth something far more valuable-potential, passion, and perseverance.
The internet was rife with discussion, and mostly celebratory, but one commenter just had to throw in, “We ain’t forget you was at Diddy parties.” Oof. But wait; everybody’s got a past, even legends. Bry7076 reminisced about having that oldie-goldie track off Usher’s ‘8701’ CD sitting pretty on the shelf. Dr. Rico Short then followed up with a throwback pic to congratulate Usher and highlight their longstanding bond.
But those real shining moments came when one of Usher’s uber-fans, Taytor Tot, declared herself as “the biggest fan” and begged for recognition. Being quick-witted, Usher responded to his biggest fan with “How long you been supporting?” Classic.
This is not just another celebrity moment; the singer has done much alongside Emory in opening up opportunities for young people who may otherwise be endowed with no voice. And with his doctorate, he is now officially Dr. Raymond IV. What more fitting title could there ever be for a guy whose name alone once got everybody shouting, “Yeah!” at the club?
What next? More music, more philanthropy, surely more wisdom. For just to prove that never-ending journey is Usher. And the shine never stops, said Matthew, admiringly, commenting on how gorgeously handsome Usher was in his cap and gown.

So whether you are here for inspiration, nostalgia, or some hot messy comments here and there, one thing is sure: Usher is winning hard, and we should consider ourselves lucky to witness it. And on that note, excuse us as we crank up ‘Confessions.’
