U.S. News & World Report has named Johns Hopkins the best hospital for rheumatology in the United States.

The publication’s 2025-‘26 edition of its Best Hospitals rankings once again included Cleveland Clinic, Hospital for Special Surgery, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Mayo Clinic in the top five facilities for rheumatology. The rheumatology rankings were based on expert opinion, while other specialties factored in various performance data, according to a press release from U.S. News.

“We are honored to be recognized by our peers as one of the top rheumatology divisions in the country,” Ami A. Shah, MD, MHS, director of the rheumatology division and associate professor at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and co-director of the Johns Hopkins Scleroderma Center, told Healio.

“Our faculty, trainees and staff are driven by our mission to provide outstanding patient-centered care while teaching the next generation of rheumatologists and scientists,” added Shah. “We are grateful to our patients for supporting our scientific endeavors, including study of the causes and mechanisms of rheumatic diseases, better screening and treatment approaches, and tools to develop personalized medicine strategies in rheumatology.”

The complete U.S. News ranking of the top hospitals for rheumatology in the United States is as follows:

  • Johns Hopkins Hospital
  • Cleveland Clinic
  • Hospital for Special Surgery, New York-Presbyterian University Hospital of Columbia and Cornell
  • Brigham and Women’s Hospital
  • Mayo Clinic (Rochester, Minnesota)
  • Massachusetts General Hospital
  • UCSF Health-UCSF Medical Center
  • UCLA Medical Center
  • NYU Langone Hospitals
  • University of Michigan Health-Ann Arbor
  • University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital

The Best Hospitals rankings involved the evaluation of more than 4,400 hospitals across 15 specialties, according to the release. Most were ranked according to objective performance measures, though rankings for rheumatology, psychiatry and ophthalmology centers were determined through expert opinion via physician surveys.

This year’s list also includes 504 regional hospitals “that have demonstrated superior outcomes,” 20 of which were named in the Honor Roll, the release said.

“For most Americans, health care decisions are made close to home. The Best Regional Hospitals rankings underscore the difference high-performing local medical centers make,” Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News, said in the release. “These local hospital rankings, entirely performance-driven, equip individuals and their families, in consultation with their medical providers, to choose the highest quality care available in their own communities.”
