One day before, the emcee kept to his authentic self and dropped some heavy knowledge on the people. The rapper made an announcement to the public about entering the comic book world with his much-celebrated album “Muddy Waters” and encouraged pre-orders from his fans. With the tweet went a link to the pre-ordering page and some sick art that literally shook every follower of his into the comment section with excitement.

So, what is really in store for this comic? Redman himself didn’t spill much about it, but one can reasonably infer from the pre-order link that this is for real. That art style is quite an ominous dark comic rendition of Redman, or maybe half-man, half-beast glistening with menace. Either way, it’s great.
The response was immense from the first second; with Carolyn replying, “That’s so 🔥”; then ACID CRACK BEATZ agrees with “gooood”; and all kinds of creative responses started coming in-with Enkil dropping a secondary verse of an old-school Redman cut: “kick the shit in the air… like you do care!” Now that’s a deep cut for real heads.
One of the very smart queries was whether there would be limited quantities; the answer to that would decide whether people will be scrambling to acquire a comic. Beats By Gritty, however, got inspired and basically said: “gotta get to work on some East Coast beats to send over to Redman.” Now that was an announcement!
Of course, the love was also showered from across the borders. Mr. G from South Africa remarked with appreciation: “thank you!!!🇿🇦,” nodding to the vast esteem held by the land toward Def Squad’s Redman. Then CannoliCoin released more fire emojis-who wouldn’t blast fire for Redman news?
From TrickyBuddha.ETH come the positive vibes: “That’s sweet Red! Have a great day! Stay Positive!” Now that’s just the kind of thing you want to hear sometimes.
Now, here’s why this matters big. Redman’s “Muddy Waters” is undoubtedly a classic album. Dropped in 1996, it is considered some of the rawest and unfiltered East Coast hip-hop imaginable at the time. Connecting the dots to making a comic book? That’s such an ambitious idea! Not your average merch; it’s expanding the album’s universe, opening a front for fans to experience Redman’s vision.
This then brings us to the rather interesting trend of hip-hop overlapping comic. We have had Wu-Tang Clan tours, MF DOOM gets locked down into comic book imagery, and now Redman is about to jump in. It kind of makes sense — hip-hop has always been story-based, and comics are considered by many as the best visual medium to bring those stories to life.
Will this comic stuff go deep into the “Muddy Waters” lore? Will some new stories be told that are inspired by the album? Or is it just going to be more of a punchy art book for “Muddy Waters”? No one has heard a peep from Redman yet, but since the pre-orders are already out, we’re guessing it won’t be long before the fans start chatting.
One thing is clear, Redman’s an innovator to the very core. In and out of studios, from pot to movies, the guy rarely stops. Comics next up… who can say? Animated series for “Muddy Waters”? Video game? Nothing would wonder us anymore.
