In the early days of Real Mom Nutrition, I wrote about the food fear-mongering I was seeing on social media. In a post called Fear & Loathing on Facebook, I said, “My Facebook news feed has become a very scary place, filled with dire and sometimes conflicting warnings about the poisonous food we’re feeding ourselves and our kids.”
The only thing that’s changed? The misinformation around food has even more platforms–and louder microphones!
One of the reasons I started Real Mom Nutrition was to ease the guilt and confusion I saw so many moms feeling (and that I felt too). Whenever I had questions, I dug in–using my training as a dietitian and my background as a journalist–to get the bottom line and share the facts in a way that felt calm, clear, and doable.
So in that same spirit, I wanted to share the facts about a handful of topics that seem to be everywhere right now, like food dyes, seed oils, and sugar.
