Key takeaways:
- OMED will feature talks on topics like vaccinations and the use of AI in medicine.
- The conference will also present an opportunity for attendees to connect and learn with others.
Thousands of health care providers will attend this year’s Osteopathic Medical Education Conference, or OMED, taking place in Nashville from Sept. 25 to Sept. 28.
The event, hosted by the American Osteopathic Association, “is the unique and one and only time in a year’s passage where you can meet with other members and osteopathic physicians,” Peter B. Ajluni, DO, an orthopedic surgeon in Clinton Township, Michigan, told Healio.

This year’s OMED conference will take place in Nashville, where attendees will have opportunities to network and catch up on the latest in osteopathic medicine.
OMED will feature presentations on topics like AI in addiction medicine, updates in vaccinations, mastering digital health and the emergency complications of GLP-1 receptor agonists.
One of the biggest benefits of the conference is socialization, Ajluni said.
“You have a social opportunity to reconnect with old friends, to learn together, to discuss what you’ve learned,” he said.
A notable speaker this year is Mona Hanna, MD, MPH, FAAP, associate dean for public health at Michigan State University, who Ajluni said is “the prime mover of the Flint water crisis.”
“Dr. Hanna will be there to explain how she improved the status of children in Flint and how she reduced the lead levels — it’s quite an interesting story,” he said.
AOA President Robert Piccinini, DO, D.FACN, said the speakers “will inspire and enlighten, while providing dynamic education that will showcase the true distinctiveness of osteopathic medicine.”
“The osteopathic profession continues to grow exponentially, and our physicians play a critical role in providing care for patients in underserved areas and in high-demand specialties,” he told Healio.
