A new cowboy series is coming to Netflix this month in the form of Ransom Canyon. Based on a series of books by Jodi Thomas, the new drama centers around three farming dynasties battling for dominance over the land.
The streaming site recently dropped a teaser from the new series, alongside the caption: “Love, loss, and loyalty collide when three ranching family dynasties fight for control of the land. Their lives and legacies are threatened by outside forces intent on destroying their way of life.” And we’re seated!
Read on for the top things you need to know about the western drama that fans are already describing from the trailer alone as “way better than Yellowstone” and having “cowboy Virgin River” energy with not one, not two, but three love storylines.
What is Ransom Canyon about?
Set in Texas, Ransom Canyon is about the generational struggle over family land, but at its heart the series is a “years-in-the-making will-they-wont-they romance” between characters Staten (Josh Duhamel) and Quinn (Minka Kelly).
The pair are brought back together following the death of Staten’s wife when Quinn returns to town to head up the dance hall. And if the town didn’t have enough to deal with, a mysterious cowboy rocks up and is airing all the dirty laundry from Ransom Canyon’s past.
What is Ransom Canyon’s release date?
Ransom Canyon drops on Netflix on Thursday, April 17 (so, later this week) with 10 episodes available to stream.
Who is in the Ransom Canyon cast?
The cast is led by Transformers’ Josh Duhamel, who plays the steadfast and stoic Staten Kirkland, the owner and sole occupant of the sprawling Double K Ranch. Kirkland is deep in the throes of grief following the loss of his wife.
He’s joined by Friday Night Lights‘ Minka Kelly, who stars at Quinn O’Grady. Quinn was trying to make it as a concert pianist in New York. However, after an unsuccessful run, she’s returned to Ransom Canyon, where she’ll be running the local dance hall.
