Johnson and Johnson has announced a new $2 billion biologics manufacturing facility located in Wilson, N.C. The announcement comes on the heels of the company reaching an agreement with the Trump administration aiming to improve access and prices of medications for American patients.2

This also marks the second signification project for Johnson & Johnson in Wilson, as back in October 2024, the company announced its plans to construct a $2 billion pharmaceutical manufacturing campus in the city of Wilson, aiming to create upwards of 420 jobs in the county and strengthen the company’s global supply chain.3

In August 2025, Johnson & Johnson continued to expand its manufacturing presence, announcing the company secured another $2 billion manufacturing facility located in Holly Springs, N.C.3

The company’s continued investment in North Carolina hasn’t gone unnoticed, as North Carolina Governor Josh Stein touched on the company’s investments, saying, “I appreciate Johnson & Johnson’s confidence that North Carolina is an ideal place to expand their business and create more good-paying jobs. Life sciences leaders continue to select North Carolina because our skilled workforce and commitment to specialized training deliver the talent companies need to help patients in the United States and around the world.”

This investment by Johnson & Johnson also strengthens North Carolina’s reputation as one of the most dynamic life sciences economies in the world, with over 75,000 North Carolina residents being employed across upwards of 800 life sciences companies operating in the state.1

“Johnson & Johnson’s decision to continue investing in North Carolina is a strong vote of confidence in our state and in the stellar workforce that powers our life sciences economy,” said Christopher Chung, CEO of the economic development partnership of North Carolina, in a press release.1 “The company has long been a valued partner here, and this investment reinforces both North Carolina’s leadership in life sciences and Wilson County’s emergence as a growing hub for high-quality jobs.”

The company broke ground on the facility last year and is expecting the new facility to produce state-of-the-art medicines for both oncology and neurological diseases.1 The company announced construction of the project is currently underway and is expected to create upwards of 5000 skilled manufacturing and construction jobs.2

Partnerships with both the North Carolina Department of Commerce and the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina on this project includes:

  • North Carolina General Assembly
  • North Carolina Biotechnology Center
  • North Carolina Community College System
  • North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality
  • Wilson Community College
  • The BioPharma Crescent
  • Wilson County
  • The Wilson Economic Development Council
  • The City of Wilson

“North Carolina has one of the largest biologics manufacturing workforce in the nation,” said North Carolina Commerce Secretary Machelle Baker Sanders in a press release. “Economic and workforce development collaboration is critical to ensuring we have the foundation and business climate for innovators like Johnson & Johnson to succeed, and we are grateful for the partners that are helping us strengthen our life sciences reputation.”

Construction of the new facility continues Johnson & Johnson’s $55 billion investment in US operations (first announced back in 2025), targeting manufacturing, research & development, and technology infrastructure up to and through 2029.
