Malerman’s 13th novel, Michigan-set “Incidents Around the House,” was released last summer. The locally based novelist and musician is no stranger to his stories getting the Hollywood treatment; his novel “Bird Box” was a Netflix sensation starring Sandra Bullock.
According to Deadline, James Wan is producing the movie and Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Macdara Kelleher, Savage, Malerman and Ryan Lewis are executive producers. Alayna Glasthal is the executive overseeing the film for Atomic Monster. Savage wrote, directed, and released the critically acclaimed horror film “Host.” Deadline also reports that “Succession” writer Nathan Elston is writing the script based on Malerman’s book.
Malerman has released many novels since the success of “Bird Box,” but there was some extra excitement surrounding “Incidents Around the House,” which is about an 8-year-old girl who has to deal with her less-than-perfect parents as well as a terrifying demonic entity she calls “other mommy.”
“To me, they’re all just as good as the other,” Malerman said of his books during a Detroit News interview in 2024. “So there’s no expectation like, oh, this one’s going to catch fire or this one’s going to do really well, but ‘Incidents Around the House’ has caught something already, yeah, for sure.”
