In fact, the show hasn’t even hit Prime Video’s domestic top 10 charts in the last three days, according to data collated by FlixPatrol. That being said, it’s finding an audience in Elordi’s home country of Australia. The Narrow Road to the Deep North has been averaging between 15 and 30 “points” on FlixPatrol this past week, while The Last of Us has been consistently hitting around 500. The five-episode series is based on a Booker Prize-winning Australian novel by Richard Flanagan, and features some of Australia’s brightest talent, both in front of and behind the camera. The series is directed by Justin Kurzel, best known for films such as Snowtown and the ill-fated Assassin’s Creed, and stars Olivia DeJonge and Odessa Young, among others. The story follows a soldier named Dorrigo Evans, who is haunted by a past love affair and his time as a prisoner of war during World War II.
The Narrow Road to the Deep North‘s 100% Rotten Tomatoes score puts it in rare company. Even the wildly popular Netflix series Adolescence couldn’t manage to maintain a perfect score on the aggregator website. Nor could the recently released second seasons of The Last of Us and Andor. The website’s consensus reads, “A difficult watch made riveting by director Justin Kurzel and star Jacob Elordi’s sterling work, The Narrow Road to the Deep North chronicles the inhumanity of war with fierce intelligence.” In her review, Collider’s Isabella Soares described the show as “a tough watch, but one that doesn’t hold back from displaying the cruelty of war and the dangers of blind ambition.”
Elordi Has a Hot Slate of Projects Lined Up
After breaking out with Euphoria and Netflix’s The Kissing Booth trilogy, Elordi has delivered acclaimed performances in Sofia Coppola‘s Priscilla, in which he played Elvis Presley, and in Emerald Fennell‘s Saltburn. He’s set to star opposite Daisy Edgar-Jones in the upcoming On Swift Horses, and in Guillermo del Toro‘s Frankenstein. He’ll reunite with Fennell on her upcoming Wuthering Heights adaptation, which is headlined by Margot Robbie. You can watch The Narrow Road to the Deep North on Prime Video, and stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
