This apple nachos recipe turns the fruit into a healthy snack that kids and adults crave! This 10-minute recipe makes snacking fun with a creamy yogurt drizzle and crunchy almonds.

It’s interesting the way a simple name change can change the way you view a food. Turn simple apple slices into apple nachos, and they become a super fun healthy snack!
This recipe was an idea from my son, who saw the idea in a cookbook. I was skeptical at first: could something this simple really work? But after the first bite, we were both sold. There’s something about the combination creamy yogurt, crunchy almonds, and a dusting of cinnamon that makes it feel like a treat. Plus, it takes only 10 minutes to make!
Ingredients in apple nachos
These apple nachos were inspired by our son, who picked out this kids cookbook from the library and he landed on a picture of apple nachos. We made them together and from the first bite, he was hooked!
This recipe is our spin on the concept: it’s so simple and a great way to incorporate healthy foods into your snacking repertoire. You’ll need:
- Apples: I am a firm believer in Pink Lady apples: to me they have the perfect crunch and sweet tart flavor. Honeycrisp and Granny Smith also work well.
- Greek yogurt: This high-protein yogurt makes the nachos “sauce.”
- Maple syrup or honey: I like using pure dark maple syrup (labeled Robust Taste) but you can also use honey.
- Peanut butter: You can add a hint of peanut butter to round out the flavors, but it’s just as delicious without.
- Sliced almonds: I love using sliced almonds for their paper thin crunch. You can also make toasted almonds for even more nutty flavor.
- Cinnamon: A dusting brings cozy, comforting flavor.

Tips for the drizzle
This apple nachos recipe is so simple, you can whip it up without looking at a recipe. The drizzle is similar to my Easy Fruit Dip or Peanut Butter Dip, which I often make simply by stirring together the ingredients without measuring. Here are a few notes about the drizzle:
- You can use Greek or plain yogurt. Plain yogurt has a looser texture; Greek yogurt will be thicker.
- If it’s thick, add water 1 teaspoon at a time to get to a consistency that’s easy to dollop onto the nachos. It all depends on the brand and type of yogurt and whether you’ve added peanut butter.
- For a dairy-free and vegan option, try my Vegan Apple Dip to drizzle over the top. It’s just as good!
Creative topping ideas
While I love the classic combination of yogurt, almonds, and cinnamon, part of the fun is customizing your apple nachos. Here are my favorite variations:

How to keep apples from browning
How do you prevent the apples from turning brown if you’re making these ahead? My trick is to toss your sliced apples with a tablespoon of lemon juice after cutting them.
This works well if you’re bringing apple nachos to a party. But typically I make these for snacking at home and they usually disappear right away: so I don’t often add the lemon juice.
Storage and make-ahead tips
Apple nachos are best enjoyed up to 30 minutes after assembly, but you can prep the components ahead:
- Yogurt Drizzle: Mix the yogurt sauce up to 2 days ahead and store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
- Apples: Slice apples up to 4 hours ahead if tossed with lemon juice. Store in an airtight container in the fridge.

- 2 apples
- ½ cup full fat Greek yogurt (or plain yogurt; or use Apple Dip for dairy free)

Instructions
- Slice the apples.*
- In a small bowl, mix the Greek yogurt, maple syrup or honey, and if using, peanut butter. If it is very thick, stir in up water a teaspoon at a time until it comes to a drizzleable consistency (depends on the brand and type of yogurt and whether you’re using peanut butter). For a dairy-free option, make my Apple Dip instead.
- Drizzle the yogurt sauce over the apples. Top with sliced almonds and a few pinches of cinnamon. If desired, add another drizzle of honey or other toppings. Serve immediately; best if enjoyed within 30 minutes of assembly.
Notes
*To prevent browning, you can mix the apples with 1 teaspoon lemon juice. Typically I make these when they’re going to be consumed right away, so I don’t usually have a problem with browning.
