Anthony Mackie on why Avengers: Doomsday is such an exciting project
The Electric State star recently sat down for an interview, where he talked about Avengers: Doomsday. While he is gearing up for the release of his upcoming series, Twisted Metal Season 2, he revealed that everyone is excited for Avengers: Doomsday.
Anthony Mackie also stated that the movie would bring back the vibes of old Marvel. He told IGN, “We’re kicking on down the road, so everybody’s getting excited, and we’re getting the band back together.” He asserted that the filming will kick off this week.
The actor added, ”Everybody’s excited. I feel with the script and having the Russo brothers back, it’s going to be great. I’m really excited for what this project is going to be. It’s going to give the audience that old Marvel feeling that they always had.”
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on May 1, 2026, and the filming is commencing in April 2025. The movie features numerous returning actors like Sebastian Stan, Paul Rudd, Chris Hemsworth, Florence Pugh, as well as those from the old X-Men movies. This includes Kelsey Grammer, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Rebecca Romijn, and more.
Moreover, Robert Downey Jr., who previously played the role of Iron Man in the MCU, is back to portray the villain, Doctor Doom. In March 2025, the Russo Brothers, who are returning to Marvel with Doomsday, revealed that they initially denied taking part in the project.
Joe Russo told Omelete, “Robert tried to talk us into doing [Doomsday and Secret Wars], and we said no. We just didn’t have a story. We didn’t have a way in. We were resistant for a while.”
