The seventh season of All American is tantalizingly close to wrapping up its run with the season finale episode billed to air on Monday, May 5 on The CW. The sports drama has undergone enormous change during its current season, with changing plotlines, and the substitution of previous mainstays, including Daniel Ezra’s Spencer James. Despite all the new faces, the show has been able to maintain its appeal with some beloved cast members from the show’s past, most notably Samantha Logan‘s Olivia Baker and her twin brother, Jordan (Michael Evans Behling), returning to keep the show going, with Tamia “Coop” Cooper (Bre-Z), also playing a major role.
Nkechi Okoro Carroll serves as showrunner on All American, and ahead of the season 7 finale episode, has offered an insight into the sports drama‘s renewal chances. Carroll, while speaking with Deadline, revealed that she is “optimistic” about All American season 8 happening. To emphasize her faith, Carroll reveals she is already mapping out follow-up seasons of the sports drama. Her comments read:
“I believe in unicorns and rainbows and gummy bears and all things happy. So, I am optimistic for Season 8, and I’m moving forward and planning as though we have one, because if I don’t, we won’t be ready in time when we get it.”
There is no way of knowing for sure if The CW will be renewing All American for an eighth season. However, Carroll’s statement sounds quite optimistic, suggesting perhaps that a bright future lay ahead for the show. Episode 13, “Award Tour,” will look to tie up Season 7 neatly in a bow, as it looks to set itself apart as a blockbuster season finale. The official synopsis reads, “On the day of the Beverly vs. South Crenshaw game, KJ is shaken by news, with Cassius and Ava stepping in. Jordan pushes to return, Amina faces a big choice, Coop moves forward with Breonna, Khalil gets support, and KJ makes a bold move.”
Could ‘All American’ Be Returning For Another Season?
Carroll has done an impressive and commendable job with All American Season 7 so far, especially when one notes how the show has been able to center its story on previous core supporting characters in the aftermath of the protagonist’s absence. Besides Greta Onieogou, who returns as Layla Keating, the current season is awash with new faces, including Osy Ikhile, Nathaniel McIntyre, Antonio J. Bell, and Alexis Chikaeze. All American is The CW’s only remaining original scripted series, and while some might scratch Carroll’s comments under wishful thinking. There is certainly some interest on the side of the higher ups to see the show return, albeit slightly worrisome as well, with Chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group, Channing Dungey, saying in part, “But we’re going to put our best efforts towards it. And as for Fox, we are still working there quite avidly and we’re figuring it out.”
All American Season 7 airs on Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates on your favorite shows.
