The new model includes a smaller tube lumen, anterior fixation eyelets and globe-conforming flexible material.

Ahmed ClearPath ST provides surgeons with more options to address patient needs, including a smaller tube lumen with a pre-threaded 6-0 Prolene ripcord suture and a 25-gauge needle for scleral tunneling, according to the release.

“When New World Medical launched the original Ahmed ClearPath in 2019, it was in response to the requests from glaucoma surgeons looking for a product to address deficiencies of traditional non-valved tubes,” Raymond Kong, chief commercial officer of New World Medical, told Healio. “As our surgeons’ needs continued to evolve, adding a small tube option was the next natural step in continuing to build on our market-leading position in glaucoma drainage devices.”

The Ahmed ClearPath ST offers two plate sizes, 250 mm2 and 350 mm2, which allows surgeons to choose between a single-quadrant implant, avoiding rectus muscle isolation, or a larger implant, avoiding rectus muscle attachment points. A smaller tube size is available, with an inner diameter of 127 µm and an outer diameter of 457 µm, in addition to a tube with an inner diameter of 305 µm and an outer diameter of 635 µm.

According to the release, additional features include anterior fixation eyelets for easier suture access and a more posterior plate placement as well as globe-conforming flexible material to yield a more natural fit.
