When the couture ball is considered one of the biggest nights in fashion, this year’s ball seems to be besieged with thundering anticipation concerning the theme: ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.’ GQ and Vogue just released a striking fashion portfolio dedicated to Black dandy culture, and let’s just say the Net is going bananas.

The superstars of the shoot were Tyler Mitchell and stylist Law Roach. The spread gathers over 30 Black cultural icons from Janelle Monáe and Teyana Taylor to Spike Lee and Dapper Dan. The pictures are basically a masterclass in Black elegance: sharp tailoring meets unapologetic swagger. The comments have been obsessed, to say the least.
@strongblacklead put it best by commenting, “These photos are giving me life 🥹.” @msjenniferford chimed in with, “I have never been more excited for a Met Gala.” Same, sis. Same.
The first image alone with Monáe, Teyana Taylor, and Ryan Destiny sent shockwaves through the timeline: @closestsight2heavn declared, “THE TRIO IN THE FIRST PIC CARRIED NS !!!” And honestly? Facts. Ryan Destiny in particular has these folks in a chokehold when it comes to the suit game. @livindatiltedlife just added, “Okay Ryan ‘always rock a suit’ Destiny 😍🙌🏾.”
But we gotta discuss Teyana Taylor for a second. The durag, which @damondk10 immediately requested to cop, and that gloriously effortless cool had people calling her ‘one of the most beautiful women in the world’ (@val_wallace_). And honestly? No lies detected.
On the other hand, Harlem legend who sculpted Black fashion for the last few decades. Dapper Dan’s presence on the spread had @thee.dondiva screami’n, ‘Dapper Dan getting his f flowers!!! 💐’ while @indiaarie swooned over his suit saying ‘I WOULD WEAR THAT SUIT NOOWWWW😂.’
Naturally, some couldn’t contain the excitement: @dubemisinretrograde wrote, ‘dream blunt rotation except im the blunt😭,’ while @wambamdancam threw shade on Timothée Chalamet’s Wonka appearance, saying, ‘The way this would’ve put Timothee Chalamets Wonka to shame!!’
The real buzz began with the Met Gala breathing down their necks, and appropriately so, @raquelfordmedia stated: ‘The energy around Black fashion right now is electric.’ If this feature by GQ precedes anything, we sure are due for one iconic night.

If you weren’t already counting down to the Met, start doing so now. Because Black excellence is about to flood the carpet, and we are not ready.
