Eamonn Walker exited Chicago Fire last year after 12 seasons on the show and he’s making a highly-anticipated return in the upcoming April 16 episode.
It was announced a month ago that Eamonn will be back as Chief Boden in the episode titled “Post-Mortem.”
In the episode, Boden is tasked by Commissioner Grissom (Gary Cole) to run a post-incident analysis following a house fire that collapsed with a firefighter inside.

“They didn’t pull any punches the way they designed this episode. In brief, there’s an incident that goes really badly, and so, the Deputy Commissioner, Boden himself, has to come in and investigate what went wrong. So he’s asking questions of each of the people in the house about how it went down, and it gets really intense, of course, because of his allegiances. All of that comes through in an amazing episode that’s written from a couple of different perspectives of the same event,” star Dermot Mulroney told TVLine.
Showrunner Andrea Newman opened up about how Dermot‘s character Pascal handles meeting with Boden in the episode.
“Boden hand-picked Pascal for this (theoretically temporary) job of Chief at 51, but when they meet in a future episode, it’s very fraught: Boden is heading an investigation into what went wrong during a tragic firefight that Pascal was in charge of,” Andrea told TV Insider. “So it’s contentious — Boden grilling Pascal about his every decision, and how things went as wrong as they did. That episode will define the relationship in some pretty emotional and complex ways.”
