This recipe was formulated to address all aspects of aging as naturally as possible. This DIY face mask contains hyaluronic acid, nature’s retinol-bakuchiol and collageneer-a collagen synthesis activator. Plus, these powerful anti aging tools are suspended in a blend of nourishing oils and butters to further smooth and deliver goodness to your skin. This mask will leave your skin feeling soft and looking radiant.
At this point in the summer, skin could use a little help, or a lot for some of us. I created a mask using 3 new anti aging products I’ve been experimenting with-hyaluronic acid oleo, bakuchiol and collageneer. We’ve worked with hyaluronic acid oleo before when making an after sun balm and we worked with collageneer when making a blue tansy face oil. Bakuchiol is a new product that I’ve been adding to my personal face oils and plan to use it for other oil based recipes. All 3 products are oil based meaning they only mix with other oils so it’s easy to add them to balms, face oils and eye products that only contain oil. Translated, these products are easy to work with and easy to fit in your skincare routine.
Ingredients:
Hyaluronic Acid Oleo can significantly increase skin’s hydration and keep the skin moisturized from the inside out. When applied, Oleo-HA can easily release the HA molecule to penetrate into the skin and nourish the skin internally resulting in plumper, more radiant skin. HA Oleo can be added to a product at .1-2%.
Bakuchiol is the first natural alternative to retinol without having any of retinol’s negative side effects. Bakuchiol modulates retinoid-binding and metabolizing genes. It significantly improves multiple dermal and dermo-epidermal junction genes/proteins. Bakuchiol stimulates Collagen I, III and IV and is clinically proven to reduce multiple signs of aging, including roughness and dryness, fine lines and wrinkles and improvement in skin tone, elasticity and firmness, increasing radiance and brightness. Bakuchiol can be added to a product at .1-.5%. It is light and heat sensitive.
Collageneer is an anti-aging and firming ingredient that stimulates the synthesis of a high-quality collagen to increase elasticity and firmness in the skin, helping to remodel the facial contour. Collageneer can be added to a product at .5-2%.
Kokum Butter is a great addition mainly because it is so rich in Vitamin E. Vitamin E is an antioxidant and is known for its firming abilities. Kokum Butter is believed to promote skin elasticity, prevent skin dryness, and restore damaged skin. It also is great for cell regeneration. I just used kokum butter in my recent anti aging lip serum.
Jojoba Oil is non-comedogenic, meaning it won’t clog pores. It is high in vitamin E. It’s extremely moisturizing without being too heavy and it absorbs quickly into the skin. It is one of my favorite oils to add to any recipe.
Evening Primrose Oil is an excellent choice for an anti aging product because it is known to even discoloration in the skin including dark circles. It is rich in omega fatty acids which helps slow down the aging process by nourishing the delicate skin. Evening Primrose is known to give the skin a tightened appearance as well as rejuvenate the skin.
Marula Oil has been known to reverse sun damage. It’s also healing and high in vitamin C and E. It’s extremely moisturizing and even boosts cellular activity. It’s also light, and fast absorbing which makes it another one of my favorite oils to add to recipes.
Beeswax is a wax that is added to oils in order to thicken them into a balm. It’s excellent for protecting the skin as well. Without beeswax, this recipe would be an oily mess, impossible to apply to the skin. Plus, it keeps the mask from dripping off the face.

Ingredient Substitutions:
If you don’t have kokum, jojoba, evening primrose or marula oil and prefer not to buy them that’s totally OK. The absolute musts in this recipe are beeswax, HA Oleo, bakuchiol, collageneer and at least one natural oil.
Other oils that are excellent for this DIY face mask are sweet almond oil, rosehip seed oil, hemp oil, hazelnut oil and even olive oil.
Instead of kokum butter, you can use any butter you have such as shea, cocoa or mango. You could also omit the butter and substitute more oil.
Of course I’ve chosen this specific oil blend for the upmost in anti aging benefits and you can always use my search bar to find other recipes that contain these oils because I use jojoba and marula a lot. Evening primrose is less used but I keep it on hand for my anti wrinkle eye mask.
DIY Face Mask Recipe:
Directions:
- Create a double boiler by filling a medium pot half way full of water and placing a glass Pyrex measuring cup in the pot. This allows the ingredients to not overheat.
- Add jojoba, evening primrose, marula, kokum, HA oleo, collageneer and beeswax to the glass cup and heat until ingredients are fully melted.
- Remove from heat and add bakuchiol. Be aware that bakuchiol can lose it’s effectiveness when prolonged to heat of 167°F and over.
- Pour into a 4 ounce glass jar and allow to cool.
How to Use:
- Apply a thin layer of mask on a clean face and leave on for 10-15 minutes.
- Using a warm, wet wash cloth, remove the mask. This mask will not be able to be removed with water and a cleanser.
- Apply a toner, serum and/or moisturizer as needed.
You can use this mask up to 2 times a week if you are experiencing extreme dryness. I recommend using it once a week. It can be used morning or night.
This recipe makes 4 ounces and has a shelf life of 6 months.
This mask is ingredient heavy but as you may have noticed, I’m branching out and experimenting with more anti aging ingredients that may or may not be straight from nature. I’m on a mission to make effective, but safe anti aging products that will enhance the skin and support it through the natural aging process. After 12 years of blogging about natural recipes, it seems time to stretch my formulations a bit further. Plus, I’m trying to create lots of DIYs around each of the anti aging ingredients so that you get your money’s worth!
