The elusive Mel B, aka Melanie Brown, whipped up the crowd with a mysterious Instagram post that made a reference to the Guinness Book of World Records. With America’s Got Talent wrapping up its final season, Mel B posted a charmingly shameless, tongue-in-cheek video in which she claimed to be in the record book but then lamely admitted that she could not remember why.

Mel B inquires of someone in the video: “Are you from Guinness?” in which she later explains: “My spy skills got me into the record book!” Asked about which record she holds, she uttered, with excellent comedic timing, “I can’t remember.” She just captioned the video with, “Who knows this ??? 👀⬇️😅,” tagging both AGT accounts.
Floodgates were opened in response to the post-with responses ranging from Mel B’s style of judging to the many genuine world records afforded upon the Spice Girls, one user rightfully noting their 1998 record for the highest-earning girl band’s annual earnings of $49 million, while another cited Geri Halliwell’s Union Jack dress as a record for the most expensive pop star attire sold at auction (£41,320).
The heartfelt comment section escalated into an all-out brawl between fans of the Spice Girls and opponents of Mel B’s judging style: “Mel B is the most honest judge. When they shouldn’t go thru she says so,” responded a fan, countered by, “Mel B. Is the most negative judge ever!! Not a fan!” That conversation also branched into debates between girl groups, regarding who are best-sellers, Spice Girls or Little Mix (the former lead with over 100 million records, while the latter is estimated at 75 million).
The post provoked a lot of sticker anecdotes from some of Mel B’s fans about their experiences with the beauty, including working on Hollywood Game Night: “You snuck a selfie with me … so nice when people you admire are sweet in person.” Others enjoyed Mel B laughing about herself, while some just got amused at Mel B forgetting “which record she holds”; one commenter wrote, “The ‘I can’t remember’ has me screaming wall-to-wall laughing so hard!! Such a #ScarySpice answer!!”
The Spice Girls hold Guinness World Records for such things as being the first group to have four consecutive singles from a debut album and the highest annual earnings for a female act. So in the video where Mel B jokingly forgets her own record, there cannot be forgetting the worldwide impact of the Spice Girls on pop culture. The post waves in nostalgia for the “do every day” good-old days and gets one thinking on the legacy of the Spice Girls, and where Mel B is currently headed as a reality TV judge.

Be it records-related arguments, Mel B’s judging style debates, or appreciation of her antics; the post forcibly darkened the memory of days when Scary Spice remains one of the most unforgettable personalities of pop formation. And how do we know she is still a hot topic generation after generation? This interaction is a testimony to how a matter as trivial as a post can spark passionate discussions on musical history, mass fanbase, and the conversion of pop stars into a new version of themselves in their advanced years.
