This new project, to open in 2031, is said to create nearly 20,000 jobs during construction and 8,000 jobs across the hospitality and creative industries upon opening.
Universal says the new attraction will generate nearly $64 billion, or £50 billion, for the economy by 2055. They also expect to see 8.5 million visitors in its first year!
“We could not be more excited to take this very important step in our plan to create and deliver an incredible Universal theme park and resort in the heart of the United Kingdom, which complements our growing U.S.-based parks business by expanding our global footprint to Europe,” Comcast president Mike Cavanagh said in a statement, promising “to create and deliver a fantastic new landmark destination.”
“Bringing a world-class theme park and resort to the United Kingdom is a tremendous opportunity and is part of our strategy to introduce the Universal brand and experiences to new audiences around the globe,” Mark Woodbury, chairman and CEO of NBCUniversal’s Universal Destinations & Experiences unit, adds.
The new theme park and resort will be the first as part of a larger 476-acre entertainment resort complex.
Universal released a preliminary rendering of the theme park, but no specific themed-lands have been revealed at this time.
