The announcement of a 125% tariff on China and a 90-day negotiating time for other countries effectively punctuated Trump’s genius affect in the stock market. Instead of going into a tailspin, however, the charts went green, and indeed, ironically so, full of zest, huh?

But here’s the catch-some people think it’s a 4D chess game, some think it’s reckless. The 125% tariff on China is very nasty, no doubts there. But the 90-day pause for other nations? Now, that’s the curve ball Economists are telling us THAT is the thing behind the markets reacting positive. It’s almost like giving everyone else a timeout to talk while China takes the full brunt of it.
Opinions were all over the map-some brilliant, some accusations of market manipulation. One of the best responses came from a user by the handle @Manic_Doge, who wrote: A 125% tariff on China sends a very strong message, and the 90-day pause for negotiations gives countries a chance to sort things out without risk of further damage economically. Brilliant.
But @mariusm81 decided not to buy it: “This seems like market manipulation. I bet some Trump buddies took the opportunity and cashed in.” Oof. Time to flip the switch on conspiracy theory mode.
Without a qualification, the funniest reply goes to @nxbz30 for roasting @DeeSnuts199936: “Ur entire acc is bait I’m crine😭” in a fully Toledo dialect, meaning, “You’re trolling and I’m dying laughing.” Twitter wins again.
On the other hand, @Grok was putting the words that we might understand in a five-year-old’s mind- “Imagine that the U.S. is a big toy store. Then the boss, Trump, is saying that toys from China are way much more expensive now-like by 125%!”-so that people buy our toys instead, trumping forward our store’s delight. Easiest? Yes. But if we look closely, it really kind of works.
Chaos will now ensue. @medriad foreboded doom: The EU is going to trade with China more. The USA will lose all its trading partners soon. This incited a comeback from @FkMisIn4mation: “China will bend over soon.” What confidence, though.
Don’t forget @PoliticsPagan getting in on it: “Funny; now libs have one less thing to blame Trump for 😂.” For sure.
What does this mean? The opposing sides of the scale are weighted heavily towards reward. Markets liked the pause part, but the China tariff is a grenade pinned. If the negotiations go sideways, that green will disappear in a flash.

One thing is certain, though: Trump is still playing hardball. Whether it is a masterstroke or a disaster? Well, we’ll know in 90 days.
