Thunderbolts* has made its mark upon its release, generating millions at the box office and receiving praise from fans and critics alike. This latest Marvel feature has been out for almost a week, and Hot Toys did not hesitate that the New Avengers will be part of its figure line in an upcoming collection, but not everyone is invited.
The news was announced on social media, where the figure company released an image featuring the likenesses of Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian (David Harbour), Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), and Ava Starr/Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen). Unfortunately, John Walker/U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell) and Sentry/Bob (Lewis Pullman) aren’t included in the teaser image, and it’s currently unknown if those two will be added to the collection. As of writing, a release date for the sixth-scale Thunderbolts* figures has yet to be announced, but collectors can RSVP on the Sideshow website if they want to be notified when the set does drop.
Marvel’s Thunderbolts* entered theaters on May 2, 2025, and has generated over $165 million at the worldwide box office, of which $74.3 million was from its domestic opening. Alongside its box office numbers, the film received a certified fresh critics score of 88% and a verified hot audience score of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. It has been confirmed that the Thunderbolts will return to the MCU and be part of Avengers: Doomsday.
Did Marvel Studios Spoil ‘Thunderbolts*’ Ending?
One of the Thunderbolts* mysteries is the asterisk in its title. The film’s cast was vague about its meaning for a while, but it was eventually unveiled at the movie’s end. In the film, it was revealed that the name ‘Thunderbolts’ was based on a soccer team Yelena was in when she was a kid, and during the events of the movie, Alexei referred to the makeshift group as that. However, their team name changed again during a press conference by Valentina (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), announcing that they are the “New Avengers,” hence the asterisk.
Typically, massive twists like this remain a secret, at least within the first week. However, it didn’t take long for Marvel Studios to release new marketing material through posters, billboards, etc., revealing the true meaning of the asterisk. Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier explained why Marvel spoiled this ending so early in its theatrical run, referencing the switcheroo that Val made in the film and thought they could do it as well.
Marvel’s Thunderbolts* is now showing in theaters.
