Political commentator and at heart a libertarian, Scott Jennings caused a stir among Twitterati when his tweet spurred an article in the New York Times concerning the alleged strategizing of the left. “Glad to see the @nytimes finally catching on to the political left’s strategies,” stated the tweet that was followed by reactions of different nature: some were supporting, while others were blatant in their hostility.

A URL to the said article was carried in the tweet, but most of the drama unfolded in the replies. The WH dropped a sarcastic remark: “The king of spin-Scott Jennings,” starting an atmosphere laden with accusations-down some historical comparisons. Unfiltered Suz Mar said, “This looks like it’s from the Nazi playbook.”
They should know the other side has arrived. ALAM launched a cheeky riposte: ‘Good you are finally admitting MAGA is lefty cult.’ This statement took the discussion away from the initial debate, much to the applause of some. On the other side, Bitecofer put out a broad challenge saying it was fascism on which focus should be placed in America today, not communism. She distinguished her position as being completely contrary to Jennings by talking about rhetoric on authority and assault on democratic institutions.
Then Jersey Friar very candidly told Jennings, “History will show you were on the wrong side of this.” Meanwhile, medipostate commented on the controversial nature of the original NYT piece, “Seize executive power,” as in, win an election?
In short, savage. Victor — tootsmcghee69 — remarked, “Well you’re drunk this morning… or just having a casual relationship with the truth again Scottie,” with Y-Not coming in for a kill: “Scott showing once again how much ball licking he’s into.”
Some did try to break down the satirical nature of all this. Ask Perplexity stepped in with an elaborate background of how satire works in political commentary and intimated the NYT piece might have been the exaggeration for effect. Native Son OK was not impressed and fired back, “Would you recognize a satirical comment if you encounter one?”
It only spiraled from there. Dave Begley and TheAverageBlackMan feuded over the “fascist white supremacist takeover,” while Grant Janes added the classic: “Every accusation from the left is actually a confession.”
By the end, the ideological battlefield of Jennings’ tweet enjoyed a range of conversations that encompassed insults, analysis, and memes. A debate is Jennigns’ forte, and half the battle today is still keeping them talking.

Was the NYT article satire? Was it a warning? Another one of those opinion pieces? Whichever one is considered, I think one thing is for sure: Scott Jennings made certain nobody would walk away from it unnoticed.
