Tourist Family, directed by debutant Abhishan Jeevinth and starring Sasikumar and Simran, released on May 1st and has struck a chord with audiences.
The film sheds light on the struggles of Sri Lankan Tamils with a sensitive and emotional narrative. It marked a strong comeback for Sasikumar known for his grounded performances. Both critics and viewers praised the film for its touching story and socially relevant theme.
Surprisingly the film became a box office success, collecting great numbers worldwide in just 13 days is an impressive achievement for a socially themed drama.
At the film’s success event, Sasikumar was asked about increasing his salary post-success. He humbly said he has no such plans, as higher pay would raise production costs.
He added that Tourist Family gave him a much-needed break and hopes it inspires debut filmmakers, showing that meaningful stories can also become big hits.
