NCIS: Origins recently delivered a heart-wrenching Season 1 finale, and now the star of the show has pulled back the curtain on how these revelations will play out in Season 2. The NCIS: Origins Season 1 finale saw Lala Dominguez (Mariel Molino) crash her car on her way to deliver Gibbs (Austin Stowell) some positive news. While it’s not confirmed that Lala dies in the NCIS: Origins Season 1 finale, her car explodes in a fiery blaze that leads the audience to believe Gibbs will never see her again. During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gibbs actor Austin Stowell spoke about how learning of the crash will affect Gibbs in Season 2, saying that it could go one of two ways for him:
“This will have major ramifications on him. No matter what happens, he just cannot seem to stop hurting people. I don’t know whether it’ll make him double down on his feelings for her or make him so scared that he wants to completely retract.”
He also spoke about the potential state of Lala in Season 2 — the show wants us to believe that she’s dead, but regardless of what happens to her, Gibbs is going to blame himself since she was on the way to his house:
“Is she dead? Is she in a coma? Is she paralyzed? I don’t know any of these things. I know this much. He’s going to find out that she was in a car accident after it seems like she was on the way to his house, so the guilt will only build.”
NCIS: Origins has already been renewed for Season 2, but it’s unclear at this time when the second season will return to CBS. Co-showrunner David J. North recently sat down for an interview and recalled getting the news that the show had been renewed, describing it as “life-changing.” After watching the Season 1 finale, it certainly makes sense that CBS wanted to move forward with a second season, but fans can only hope that it will come sooner rather than later. All 18 episodes of NCIS: Origins are now streaming on Paramount+, and select episodes from the first season are also available to watch for free on Pluto TV.
