If you’re a fan of a Scandi thriller, you’ll want to know about Netflix’s immersive new series, which is coming to our screens imminently. The Glass Dome is the scarily good crime drama about the vanishing of a local girl in a small Swedish town – and we have a feeling we’re all about to get hooked on it.
Based on a story by author Camilla Läckberg, The Glass Dome follows Lejla who, as a child, was held captive by an unknown kidnapper. As an adult, she returns to the Swedish village she grew up in and is horrified when another young girl disappears. What is The Glass Dome about?
When criminologist Lejla returns to her childhood home in a Swedish village, she finds a population strained by tension, as the traditional locals wrestle against inevitable modernisation. “For Lejla, however, her return is overshadowed by something far more dark and intimidating than she ever anticipated,” reads the Netflix’s official synopsis.
When Lejla was a little girl she was kidnapped and held captive inside a glass dome. Despite being held in the area – suggesting the perpetrator could even have been village local – her captor was never caught. Lejla made it out and even became a criminologist, but it becomes impossible to keep the past behind her when a second young girl, Alicia – the daughter of an old friend – vanishes without a trace. Horrifyingly, there are chilling similarities between this latest case and her own.
Is history repeating itself? Could her captor be still be out there, recreating the crime he inflicted on her? Lejla is compelled to uncover the truth and could be the only one who has a chance of finding Alicia. “As Lejla investigates the disappearance, she must also confront her own inner darkness—a part of her past she’s tried to avoid,” says the synopsis.
