The Bucks just stepped into social media minefield by wishing Porter a happy birthday, and well… PEOPLE HAD OPINIONS. Just on the official account, it was a simple birthday shoutout to the controversial NBA player, but the replies came flowing in defending the player, joking, and outright furious. So what really happened? So strap in, this is going to get messy.

First, for those who might just have missed the drama, Porter Jr. has been in trouble for his past legal complications, including allegations involving domestic violence. That baggage came roaring back the second Bucks hit post. The tweet itself was harmless-a simple graphic that said, ‘Happy Birthday Kevin Porter Jr.!’-but the internet does not forget. And oh, how the replies said something.
One user on Twitter, indyfan, did not mince words and straight up called Porter a “women beater.” Austin James flung the harshest insult at the Bucks organization, calling them “classless and poverty” for recognizing Porter. Those were varying voices, ranging from disgust to sarcasm when LiLCouGHyP0t remarked, ‘Is that a CUTE way to say he beats the shit outta women but backs down to every man that challenges him?’ Ouch.
Some replies were sarcastic or lighthearted, such as dan goodwin’s comment: “Good for him, gets to enjoy his bday at the beach…” Jordanizsad made fun of it, asking Porter to want “a new head coach” as a gift. The parody account HolidayJrueTime took the whole thing to the next level: “Give him a fat contract for his bday.” The responses ran the range-harsh and playful-but the passion behind all of them was undeniable.
The Bucks refused to comment on the backlash, which was probably… wise. To have responded would have been to throw gasoline on the fire. But it does give you something bigger to ponder: Should the teams even acknowledge players with controversial pasts? Or is it better to just stay silent and do not stir the pot? The replies sure made clear where a lot of people stand.

One thing is sure: the birthday wish came back to bite the Bucks, big time. The internet is still undefeated when it comes to keeping offenders accountable and has given the Bucks a rude reminder. Whether you think it was a justified backlash or an exaggerated one, one thing is clear-the reaction cannot be ignored. This is not going to be the last time a social media account for a team goes up in flames. Lesson learned? Maybe run these things by PR beforehand. Just two cents of mine.
