Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic has perhaps one of the funniest lines in basketball this year: “I’m a Bronsexual.” That was his answer when asked about his opinion on LeBron James in a post-game interview, firing fans into a frenzy online about him. He said that with an expression on his face, then burst out laughing. Within moments, that clip started circulating over the internet, with hilarious responses on Twitter.

If you’re not updated about Twitter slang, “Bronsexual” is a fusion of LeBron’s name and a term that is used for die-hard supporters. Basically, Luka was kidding that he’s a huge LeBron fan. And the timing couldn’t be better immediately after LeBron went to become the all-time NBA scorer by passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Tweet replies were comedy. Adriel🥈 said, “2 mill filling it up with beer,” discussing how much exposure and bucks Luka would make from this viral moment. Another guy, InfinitsU🎨 | PLAYOFF SZN💫, tweeted, “HE JUST LIKE ME FR,” with crying emojis, expressing that relates to how he feels about being a fan. In the opposite direction, BitchAssWendy simply stated that it was “a troll response to a troll question” but acknowledged that it would, of course, be popularized by LeBron fans.
Some took the joke too literally. Parody account flamock asked, “Is that in beer or hard liquor?” trying to moniLuka’s fandom level more like ingrade. Lakers Better made a really nice shade that’s: “already showing bron more love than kyrie ever did,” throwing shade at Kyrie Irving for his complicated history with LeBron.
The best part was people starting to doubt its authenticity, with CEO1OF1 saying, “This ain’t ai?😭,” struggling to believe that Luka would say anything like that. User 🤷🏽♀️ though proffered “Hehe sure” aka I’m not, getting what Luka was really getting out.
But that definitely doesn’t seem to be the case for everyone. “Luka should focus on defense. He is getting cooked!!!” was a shot at Luka from Leonardo Pagnatti Jr. Proves it just takes one or two people to be negative when someone is trying to be funny.
Many responses included the words “He just like me fr,” showing how much of a chill fan vibe Luka has that resonates with the average viewership. Summer Rose🥀 kept it simple with “As he should be 👑,” whereas Kobe Wan just commented “Got em,” with a laughing gif to sum it all up as to how well Luka lured us all into his trap with one word.
At the end of the day, this is a slam dunk to show Luka’s character. While athletes today give mundane, trained responses to the media, a top-5 player comes up with the most ridiculous joke and is just having a merry light moment. That’s just authenticity making him so likable. And let’s face it, who isn’t a little Bronsexual at this moment after watching LeBron create this big scoring mark?

The spotlight makes clear: 1) Luka is a prime troll; and 2) NBA Twitter jumps on anything even mildly remotely funny. This week might just go down as the period during which basketball fans were entertained the most by memes, jokes, and 2000-word think pieces analyzing a very spontaneous statement. And to be honest? All that sounds like pretty darn good therapy after all this serious stuff about MVP debates and trade rumors. Luka knows how to remind us that basketball can still be fun sometimes, and that’s why he is such an entertaining superstar!
