Are you tired of the endless scroll through streaming services, wondering where to find the best movies?
You’re not alone. Many viewers are now “churning” their subscriptions bouncing between services to save money and catch up on their watch lists.
But with so many options like Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, Disney+, and Max, the question remains: which one truly has the best movie selection? Let’s dive in.
First, let’s talk quantity. If sheer numbers are your thing, Amazon Prime Video takes the crown with a staggering 20,000+ movies. Netflix follows with over 6,000, Hulu has around 3,000, and Max offers just under 2,000.
But quantity doesn’t always equal quality. How many of those titles are actually worth watching?
To get a clearer picture, we need to filter out the “stinkers” and focus on hit films. Using an app like “Just Watch,” which aggregates data from various streaming platforms and movie review sites like Rotten Tomatoes, we can see which services offer the most highly-rated movies.
When we look at movies with a score of 80 or higher on Rotten Tomatoes, the landscape changes dramatically. Amazon Prime Video still leads with 1,880 well-reviewed movies. Netflix’s offerings, while vast, see a significant drop in quality, with only 810 out of their 6,000 titles meeting the high rating threshold. Hulu has 312, and Max has 753.
But what about more recent hits? Many of us want to watch movies released in our lifetime.
When we narrow the search to films released since 1986 here is what I found:
• Amazon Prime Video 1,578 quality movies
• Netflix just over 800
• Hulu has 309
• Max 473
So who’s the winner? Based on both quantity and quality, Amazon Prime emerges as the clear leader. It offers a vast library and a significant number of highly-rated films, both old and new.
However, it’s important to acknowledge that “quality” is subjective. What one person considers a great movie another might not.
Furthermore, we must consider original content. Netflix has been a powerhouse in producing original films, winning 26 Academy Awards compared to Amazon’s 5.
If you prioritize platform-exclusive movies, Netflix might be your top choice.
Ultimately, the “best” streaming service for movies depends on your personal preferences. Do you value quantity or quality? Are you looking for classic films or recent releases? Do you prioritize original content? Consider these factors when choosing your subscriptions.
And remember, with the flexibility of streaming services, you can always switch things up and explore different platforms to find the perfect movie experience.
