‘A Minecraft Movie’ Casts a Spell on Harry Potter To Become One of Warner Bros.’ Biggest Hits Ever

A Minecraft Movie recently wrapped up its fifth full weekend in theaters, but that didn’t stop it from becoming one of the highest-grossing blockbusters ever. At the time of writing, Jack Black’s video game adaption has collected $398 million at the domestic box office and $475 million internationally, leaving it with a worldwide cumulative haul of $873 million. This $398 million domestic total is enough to make it the fifth-highest-grossing movie of all time for Warner Bros., its primary distributor. It had to pass Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II ($382 million) to get there. A Minecraft Movie, which also stars Jason Momoa, now has its sights set on passing Wonder Woman, the 2017 superhero movie starring Gal Gadot that grossed $412 million at the domestic box office.
